New Album from French Electronic Duo

No, not THAT French electronic duo (though we hear one is in the works), but none other than Justice. Earlier this week Justice released their 2nd studio album, Audio, Video, Disco, though “Civilization”, the first single off the album, was released back in March.

A follow up to the critically acclaimed Cross, I doubt the album will bring them the same level of success, but there are definitely some bangers on it other than obviously “Civilization” (most notably “Helix”, “Canon”, and particularly the outros to “Ohio” and “Horsepower”).
With always danceable beats and a heavy rock/metal influence, Justice just fucking gets it, not to mention they definitely know how to party; I can’t get enough of their tour video for “Phantom Part II”, and much love for the scene where they drive across the Bay Bridge into SF:

And, as always, here are our favorite Justice tracks to get you ready to kill it this Halloween weekend (we’re seeing Deadmau5Tiesto, Pendulum, Dada Life & Cosmic Gate so look for some follow-up posts in the next few weeks):

Chrom-e-o, ohhhhhh oh

I went to the one and only Treasure Island Music Festival this past weekend, which (when the weather is nice, which it was) is one of my favorite music festival venues. There were a ton of good electronic acts on Saturday, but in my opinion the electrofunk duo Chromeo stole the show (Cut Copy was a close second).

These guys’ beats and lyrics make it fun dance music to begin with, but their over-the-top swagger and attitude make them an absolute blast to see live. They also put on an impressive show from a technical standpoint, with live guitar, keyboard, synth, drums, vocals, and talkbox between the two of them. There are few people I want to hang out with more than the front man, Dave (seriously, just read the bio on their Facebook page).
I think this video probably best personifies what Chromeo is all about:

And here are our other favorite Chromeo tracks to get you ready to cut some rugs this weekend:

At a Glance: A State of Trance #530

Weekly recap of our favorite tracks from Armin Van Buuren's ASOT

VM's Track of the week: W&W - Manhattan
Epic Synths define the track of the week which comes from W&W. Listen at about two minutes in as "Manhattan" takes you on a uplifting trance ride, and proves that Armin Van Buuren still has the best ear for trance of anyone in the business.

Other Notables

Ben Gold - Colossal
Couldn't think of a better name for this track if I tried. Huge, complex, dark trance.
Boom Jinx - Phoenix from the Flames(Omnia & The Blizzard mix)
Progressive vocal trance personified.
*Emma Hewitt - Coulours(Armin Van Buuren mix)
Very "Orbion-eque" but that isn't a bad thing here.
*Ana Criado - Can't Hold Back the Rain
Slow buildup and a complex melody makes this one of my favorite trance tracks out now.

*Technically debuted on ASOT 529 & 528

Animal Kingdom DJs

In today’s post we bring you the latest mix from our good friends the Animal Kingdom DJs, Jake and Peter, who reside in SF and the OC, respectively. These guys definitely know their progressive house music, and have put together an absolutely killer mix of brand new music. You can get the full track listing and download the mix on Mixcrate (they'll also be uploading their previous mixes to this site soon).

Eric Prydz - So much more than "Call on Me"

Whether you're aware of it or not, Eric Prydz, the DJ/producer behind perhaps the greatest music video of all time and certainly one of the most played songs during our time in college, "Call on Me", has other great tracks as well. He currently has the number one track on beatport, and for good reason. Check it out!

Alesso - Another Teenager Absolutely Killing It

Most people probably know Alesso from from his remix of "Pressure", which has been one of my all-time favorite tracks from the very first time I heard it and for obvious reasons. 19-year-old Alesso, along with Madeon, Porter Robinson, and others is part of a wave of up-and-coming teenage DJ/producers who have been putting out some incredible material in the past year or so. Similar to the Deadmau5/Skrillex/Porter protege relationship, Swedish House Mafia's Sebastian Ingrosso (post coming soon) has taken Alesso under his wing and collaborated to produce some sick tracks such as this:

Steve Aoki is an Incredible Idiot

Well our old friend Steve Aoki decided to get himself a tattoo and posted a photo of it on Facebook about an hour ago..

Some might call that one of the most extraordinarily awful decisions in the history of both decisions and tattoos. They might also say that Aoki's desperate attempts to latch himself onto real talent have gone to an entirely new level. Well thank goodness his fans came out in force to support him:
